I just got this vintage sweater at work and I love how such a warm wool sweater has such a fun tropical print. While what you wear definitely reflects who your are and how you're feeling, I think that sometime what you wear can actively change your mood. Bright colors and fun patterns can really make you feel more positive and happy. Like wearing this sweater on a bleak winter day can make your feel a bit more cheerful.

I have had some major changes in my life in the last half of 2011. Since I last posted anything, I was accepted into the Fashion Institute of Technology's Fashion Merchandising program and just finished my first semester! Going to FIT meant that I would need to move from Philly back to NYC. This was a really hard decision for me, because Peter was still going to be living in Philly, but I felt like this was the only way I'd be able to get a real, well paying job (my art degree hasn't been helping me much). So I quit my job at Greene Street Consignment, moved back to Queens, and found a new job at Crossroads Trading in Brooklyn.

Things have been super crazy lately, with going school full time and working a lot paired with super long commute times. But I'm Winter break right now, so things have calmed down and now I'm back to blogging!

I really want to be more organized in 2012, so that I can fit in all of the things that I want to do with becoming overwhelmed like I did this past semester. I want to blog more, get all of my school work done, work, and visit Peter and all of my Philly friends as much as possible. I also want 2012 to be the year I find me a career!

Ireland Post: Belfast

So, I'm finally posting my photos from my Ireland trip. These are from our first day, after so marathon traveling. After my 7 hour bus ride from Philly to Boston. My best friend, Kathryn, and I boarded out plane to Dublin. When we landed (at 5am!), we got on a 2 hour bus ride to Belfast. This was the first time I'd ever been to Belfast and I though it was great! (Although, I wish I was a bit less tired, so I would have known what was going on.) We wound up sleeping until about 2pm the next day (latest I've slept for reals!)

It was really rainy and I was so tired, so my photos weren't that great. (I enhanced them a bit on picnik) The next batch will be better... promise.

san francisco band film school has been around since the late 90s and have really developed their own sound. they blend post punk styles with electronic influences and, as a result, create a haunting and melancholy feel without becoming depressing. i highly recommend them and i hope you enjoy

i'm really glad that wide leg jeans (and any pants i guess) are coming back this spring. when you're not stick skinny it's a bit harder to do the skinny jeans things. i also really love the retro 70s vibe that wider leg jeans have. they're also much more comfortable. here are a few ways some girls are doing it, to give you some inspiration for spring.

sorry for the long absence again... working almost everyday (like the past two weeks) really wipes me out. but anywho, i'm back now and i wanted to share a new designer with you.

while flipping through the new issue of nylon, i came across an article about thom dolan, a new label by designer thomasine dolan dow. she's worked for at companies such as banana republic, ralph lauren, and bill blass. those connection are very evident in her own collection, which is about as quintessentially american as you can get. her vintage inspired line really calls to mind images of betty draper, but with a modern twist. these pieces would be perfect for biking on the beach in the hamptons or something like that. they're giving me some great spring/summer inspiration.... and making me long for warmer weather.

on a completely unrelated note, i'm going to ireland in a few days and i couldn't be more excited!

This is what I wore to work yesturday. The snow is finally starting to melt and it was so warm in the moring (40 degrees!), although it was super windy (you can tell in these photos). I only wore one pair of tights it was awesome... until later that night when I was leaving work and the temperature drastically dropped. It was so cold I almost cried (seriously).

On a side note, I have totally turned into a crazy shopaholic since Christmas (I'm opening a package from Modcloth as I'm typing this). It's gotten really rediculous. I've gotten so much new stuff in the past month, I haven't even gotten a chance to wear it all, and then I still get something else! It really needs to stop, so I'm vowing to not buy anything else until I wear everything I own at least once.

This skirt is one of those new things the I bought (well, it's not really new... I got it at work). I bought it a few weeks ago and it's been sitting in my room, unworn. I really like it, although it's a bit more revealing than what I normally wear. I'm pretty self consious, so it'll a little getting used to.

Here are some more weather approprate photos. I took these a few weeks ago, when Philadelphia and New York ( and, well the whole mid-west and north east) were hit with a huge snow storm. I still had to go into work, but we opened later, so I had some time in the morning to take some snowy outfit photos. I really wanted to wear this outfit with cute brown boots (I think it would have looked much better), but the 16 inches of snow kind of forced me to wear my not so cute snow boots.

So, there's been yet another long absence from me on this blog. I really don't know what's been going on with me and blogging, because I really do like it. I guess I've just been pretty lazy lately and haven't really felt like doing much. Maybe it's just the winter bumming me out, but, in any case, one of my new year's resolutions is to blog more, because, like I said, I really do enjoy it. I miss all my fellow bloggers while I'm away and I've been really slacking fashion wise (lots of jeans and sweater, because no one sees me). I know it's a month and a half into the new year, but for me, actually doing anything about a resolution is a big step. So, hopefully I'll stick to it this time and I'll get back to reading all of your blogs again too. I'm really sorry about neglecting them.

This is what I wore to work last Wednesday. I was running so late to work that I literally only took these two photos and then ran to the train. My mom sent me this dress with a bunch of stuff that I'd left at home in New York. I really love it. I think it from the 70s and I haven't worn it in a while because it was in New York. I kind of missed it though. I'm really loving that it's fall and I can wear boots and sweaters and there's leaves all around, by the way. I really love leaves.

Montreal: Part Three - Blogger Meet Up!

On our last full day in Montreal, Peter and I got to meet up with Meaghan of Left Hand Endeavor! I feel like this meet up was in the works for a long time. Meaghan was one of the first people that commented on my blog who wasn't related to me and we instantly clicked. After talking online and even being facebook friends, we finally got to meet in person this summer! And it was honestly like hanging out with an old friend. We had so much in common and she was so easy to talk to!

When we met up, Meaghan took us to a great vegan restaurant for lunch, which had the best raspberry lemonade ever! After that, we stopped by some great (and pricey) vintage shops and Peter was very patient as we ogled over all the pretty dresses we couldn't afford. It was a really great way to end our trip in Montreal.

These photos are all from our second day in Montreal. We went to the Tour de l'Horloge, which is this clock tower in the old port that was build in the 1920s and has a fantastic view of the city from the top. After that, we walked all around the city, we found this Revolutionary War band (well, not Revolutionary War because Canada never had a revolution, but you know what I mean), I almost died because it was so hot, and we made our way the Mont Royal, were we found another wonderful view (and water!) at the top, right before it started to rain again.

Montreal: Part One

Here are some photos from my first day in Montreal with Peter. We walked all around Vieux Montreal. Most of these photos are from the Basilique du Notre Dame, which was incredibly beautiful and had some of the most wonderful stained glass windows! We also went to Centre d'Histoire and Pointe A Calliere, where we learned all about the history of Montreal.

We had such a great time, even though we got caught in torrential downpours! I have to say, Montreal is really one of those places that, every time I visit, I really feel like I could live there.

I'm Back!

I'm back! This past month (and a half) I was kind of getting sick of blogging. I felt like I wasn't really getting and followers, especially when compared to some really popular blogs and it was just getting me down. I also kept forgetting to bring my camera places and, when I came back from my Montreal trip, I was working like crazing and really didn't feel like blogging once I got home.

I think that break was a really good for me though. I really missed blogging and I realized that getting a ton of followers wasn't the reason I started blogging in the first place. I was so excited, once I started blogging, that there was community out there that I had things in common with. For the first time in my life, I felt like I fit in and I've met so many wonderful people through this blog.

I've realized, during this break, that I don't want to stop blogging. I also changed the whole layout of the blog and there's still more changes to come. All of this is making me really excited to start blogging again. I have lots of idea's for new posts (starting with my Montreal trip and a really exciting blogger meet up). I think I'm going to do more outfit and hopefully I'll get to do some more blogger meet ups soon!

I just want to thank all of my readers for all of your support. I appreciate your comments more than you could ever know, and if you don't comment, I really appreciate that as well!

Style Icon of the Week: Betty Draper

I've been kind of slacking on my style icon of the week feature lately, and since the Mad Men season premier was on Sunday, and possibly captivated the entire blogging world, I decided to include a fictional character as a style icon of the week.

Mad Men has some of the best style of any show on television and Betty Draper in particular has one of the most quintessential late 50s, early 60s style that it's almost impossible, as a vintage lover, to not find inspiration in her looks. Her wardrobe features the most wonderful collection of voluminous shirtwaist dresses I've ever seen and has such a wonderful pastel color pallet. I wish I could dress like her every day!

I apologize for being such a terrible blogger this past week, but I got a few days off work and I decided to go back home to New York for a few days! I got back on Saturday, but I kept falling asleep after work. This post is kind of misleading, I didn't actually wear this outfit while I was in New York. I wore it about two weeks ago to work. I really liked it though. I felt kind of country with the vest.

I didn't take one photo while I was in NY, but I had such a great time. It was so nice to see all my family and friends again, and to be in my bed! I also got to do my first ever blogger meet up with Mel of Idee Geniale! We got some veggie dinner after I met her after she got out of work. She was such a sweet girl and it was so nice to take to someone I had so much in common with. I hope I wasn't too awkward or anything, but I really had a great time!

I feel like I'm living a bi-city life lately, like I'm living in two different cities at the same time and last week was pretty crazy for someone who usually stays home on Friday nights watching Dateline. I was so tired all week and needed some time to recuperate, but I'm feeling more rested now and back to blogging!

This is just going to be a really quick outfit post. I had a really long day at work today, with so lady yelling at me in the middle of the store, so I'm really tired and I don't have much to say.

This is what I wore on Thursday, the day my Ipod died :( I got this dress in a swap I did with Mel of Idee Geniale, and I really love it! All the colors are fantastic! I also liked that it was cool enough out for me to wear a cardigan. Now its in the 90s!

Style Icon of the Week: Rhiannon Leifheit

So it just took me about two hours to get to write this post because blogger was being so weird! I couldn't upload any photos for the longest time, and while I was trying to figure out how to do it, I realized that blogger has this new posting format and I had no idea! I think I was the last person to switch over. This new format is kind of weird and I'm still trying to get used to it.

Anyway, back to my original post. This week's style icon is Rhiannon of Liebemarlene Vintage! Rhiannon was one of the main reasons I stared blogging. About a year or so ago, I was searching google for Marc Jacobs photos and came across one of her lovely outfit photos. I was instantly draw to her blog and she has been one of my style inspirations ever since. She has such a wonderfully romantic style and has such a knack for finding the most beautiful vintage items! She's always pairing vintage from different eras with modern pieces into a look that is all her own and her eBay shop contains the most wonderful collection of vintage I've ever seen!

It was so hard to choose a few of Rhiannon's lovely outfits for this post, because I just love so many of them, but here are a few of my favorites.

I finally went through my to mend pile last night and hemmed two skirts, a dress, and fixed a button on a shirt. I feel like I have all this new stuff now! This skirt was one that I hemmed. It was really ugly when I found it. It was long and kind of dingy looking, but I saw promise in it so I got it. Now that I gave it a wash and hemmed it, I think it's super cute! I bought it for the store, but I might keep it for awhile.

On another note, how cool is my new hat! I got it at work yesterday and I really love it so much! I want to wear it everyday and I probably could; I've already planed out a billion outfits to go with it! I also love ice pops, which I just bought at the store on my way home from work. I've already had four.

The National!

On Saturday night, thanks to a wonderful coworker of mine, Peter and I were able to get on the guest list for The National and go into the show for free! The show was so awesome! The National was such a great band and they were even better live. The singer even when into the crowd at one point. I couldn't really see much (because I'm so short) but we were able to get pretty close to the stage (and away from these super tall guys in front of me). If you're not a fan of The National, I definitely recommend checking them out.

I have been the worst blogger this weekend! I was so busy this weekend that I didn't have time to post anything... or respond to your comments, sorry. But, I had a good reason. I had tickets to the Matt Pond PA show on Friday, I got on the guest list for The National show on Saturday, and when to a heritage festival on Sunday. It was one crazy weekend!

This is what I wore to the Matt Pond PA show on Friday. The skirt I'm wearing is my first ever purchase from Modcloth! I always look through their website and want just about everything on there, but unfortunately, everything there is so expensive! It's just way out of my budget. But, Peter was nice enough to get me this skirt (that I've been wanting forever!) for my birthday, and I love it! It's so pretty with all it's colors and the bow in the back! I don't know if I'll be getting anything else from Modcloth any time soon, but this skirt is the perfect addition to my wardrobe!

The Matt Pond PA show on Friday was amazing! I really love that band and I've seen them live about four times now! They're always so great! They have the prettiest sounding music that just makes you feel like you're in New England somewhere. This show was in a really small venue and we were able to get right in the front! The lighting in the place was awful so I didn't really get many photos, but here are a few that I took and two of their songs from youtube.com.

Stephen Shore

Stephan Shore has become one of my favorite photographers after I saw a show of his work at the International Center of Photography back in 2007 (I think). Apparently, he is a self taught photography, who, at the age of 17 worked his way into Andy Warhol's factory. He work is not glamorous and really exemplifies the Pop Art movement of the 1960s. He really has a knack for capturing beauty in the ordinary, which really speaks to me.

Rachel Bilson has been one of my style icons ever since she was on The OC back when I was in high school. I love how she pairs vintage and modern styles together in a way that always looks classy and never over the top. I love how she uses patterns in her outfits and, of course, I love that she's 5'2", a brunette, and she's Italian!

This is what I wore back on Friday. I woke up are really couldn't decide what to wear, so I started flipping through an old issue of Nylon (March 2010) that I completely forgot that I had and I came across their feature, "The Farmer's Daughter" and instantly knew what I wanted to wear. The spread was so pretty with all the florals, plaids, and denim paired together. If you have the issue around, I definitely recommend checking it out.

The feature reminded me of my old button down shirt from Old Navy. I paired it with a "new-to-me" skirt I got at work a few weeks ago, that is quickly becoming one of my favorite pieces in my closet! I've gotten so many new things lately. I really need to stop! I need to save up for a trip I'm taking this summer, so I'm going to try not to buy any clothing all summer. This is going to be really hard, since I work in a clothing store, and a resale shop at that! But, this is going to give me an opportunity to get more wear out of the clothes that I have, so expect lots of outfit remixes this summer!

This is what I wore yesterday on Memorial Day. I had to work all day, but I still wanted to be a little patriotic. I though this dress I bought from Mel of Idee Geniale was perfect and my red, white, and blue belt matched perfectly! I think I'm going to be wearing this dress a lot! It fits me perfect and has a really flattering 50s shape. My bag is from Maria of Lulu Letty. She did such a great job painting the bow... I love it! Summer Inspiration: Matthew Williamson

One of my favorite designers is British designer Matthew Williamson. He's collections are always beautiful. He plays with color, pattern, and draping perfectly and his attention to detail is impeccable. He collections, no matter what the season, always invoke an air of summer, which is why I think he is the perfect summer inspiration designer. His bright colors and floaty sheer dress transport you to some tropical, luxurious island where you can walk barefoot in the sand. Even if I can't afford any of his pieces, they're wonderful to look at. For now I'll just have to incorporate some breezy, feminine pieces into my wardrobe and hope to own something by Matthew Williamson one day.

Iron & Wine is actually Samuel Beam who is a singer-songwriter from South Carolina. I actually didn't like him at first, but his music really started to grow on me, and now he's one on my favorites. His music really make me feel like being in a forest in upstate NY during the summer, and usually that's the only place I want to be in the summer.

This is what I wore about two weeks ago and I'm just posting it now. My first ever romper! I never really thought I could pull one off, but I always thought they looked so cute on other girls. I've been really trying to take more risks (fashion wise, and in life too, i guess), so when I saw this vintage romper at Buffalo Exchange I had to get it, after a picture message to some friends to see what they thought. I'm think really into rompers now! Although I still don't think that they look that great on me (I don't really have the legs to pull them off), but I'm going to wear them anyway, because they're so cute and perfect for any weather, which is a big selling point for me! It is kind of hard to go to the bathroom, though.

So, Tuesday was my birthday. I stayed in, we ordered Indian food and Peter's parents got me a Carvel ice cream cake, which made me feel like I was back in New York. I decided to wear this cool skirt that I just found. I've been looking for a floral, high waisted skirt for spring, and when I found this one I thought it was just perfect! And plus it matches all the cherry blossoms! I still need to hem it, but I couldn't wait to wear it!

Happy Earth Day everyone! Even though, it was yesterday. I was going to post this yesterday, but for some reason, my photos wouldn't upload. So today it is. Here's what I wore to work yesterday. Everything I'm wearing is secondhand, except for the tights, which I took off later on and threw out because they lost the elastic and kept falling down.

Since it was Earth Day, I was thinking about how clothing affects the environment. After doing some research on the Internet, I realized that clothes really do take a toil on our environment. Clothing creates carbon emissions that contribute to global warming. All of the dyes, chemicals, and pesticides pollute our water ways and destroy farmland. In addition, cheaper clothing, that is more disposable, creates even more of a need for new clothing to be made.

Many companies are now creating clothing made from organic materials, however, these items usually need more care after they our bought and this also takes it toil on our environment. These items use up a lot of energy because they have to be washed frequently at high temperatures.

A great way to help our environment and still be fashionable is buying clothing a thrift stores and vintage shops! While most of the readers of this blog already shop at thrift stores, maybe you haven't realized how you are helping the environment. Shopping at thrift stores limits your consumerism and the need for new clothing to be made. It also allows clothing to be recycled instead of ending up as garbage in a landfill. Thrift shops also provide lots of fun searching for that perfect vintage dress!

So... Once again, I neglected this blog for a week. I'm really trying to get better at posting more, and in an effort to catch up, here are two outfits I wore and haven't posted yet.

This is what I wore a while ago, when it was super hot out! It got up to 90 degrees, I think! Way too hot for April! After all that complaining about the cold, then I was complaining about the heat. Oh well, it let me put together a summery outfit. I felt very 60s in this outfit. I think I've been really inspired by the 60s lately because Peter and I have been watching Mad Men non stop! We're up to season 3 now! I also have been wearing these sunglasses everyday! They my new favorites! I found them on my last trip up to New York, I think I've had them since I was about 12 years old!

This is what I wore to work last week. I took these photos before I left for work, which is why my hair is still wet in the photos. I really should dry it before I leave, but it just takes so long!

I got this dress in a huge box of clothes that my aunt sent me. Some things are going into my etsy shop soon and some I'm going to keep for a while. I haven't really decided what I'm going to do with this dress. It's a size small, but it's huge on me! I think it looks cute with a belt, but it's still pretty big. I might give it away, but the little flower detail on the bottom is too cute!

These photos are all from yesterday. It was such a beautiful day out! I couldn't resist taking a photo of the creek near my house on my walk home from work. It look way more beautiful then this photo shows! It had the prettiest trees with all these pinkish whitish flowers (which I don't think are cherry blossoms, but they kinda looked like it). It was even nice enough to not wear tights!

Today I'm writing this from New York. I'm back home for Easter weekend and it's so nice to see my family again and be in my room! I really missed my bed!

I want to apologize for being the worst blogger in the world lately! I've been working at my new job and then when I get home, I've been so tired. This weekend Peter and I had a really great visit from my two best friends in the world! We were both really looking forward to their visit! I think the hardest thing about moving to a new city is being away from the all the people that you love. So, it was really super to be around my friends again!

They came on Saturday, but unfortunately I had to work (by the way, I got that job at Green Street Consignment and it's going really well!). So on Saturday, Kathryn went to a Villanova basketball game and Peter gave Danielle a tour of the town. Later on, they picked me up from work and we ate Thai food and then went home to make blondies and watch movies. I'll post photos from our day on Sunday tomorrow.

Today was so beautiful out that I decided to recreate some outfits and take photos outside. This is what I wore on Saturday. I also took a bunch of photos for my etsy shop so there will be an update very soon!

This is what I wore to see Peter's former piano teacher play at The Philadelphia Chamber Music Society last night. It was a really interesting show, since I haven't really heard much classical music. His teacher seemed really nice and I was cool to meet someone that made such an impact on Peter's life. I even got to meet his mom!

This concert also gave me a chance to wear my new, 70s, silk dress! I originally bought this dress for my shop, but then I hemmed it and it looks so pretty! It has such a romantic feel, but sort of nautical at the same time with it's blue trim on the collar and pocket. I really want to keep it, but I should put it in the shop. Also, the hem is a little wonky, so that's making me hesitant to sell it. I might just try to fix the hem and then sell it.

On an unrelated note, I cut my bangs today and now I can see! I'm also going to have some visitors this weekend! I'm very excited! Have a great rest of the week!

This is what I wore to the job interview I had today at this really awesome consignment store. It seems pretty promising and I'm really hoping that I get this job! The whole atmosphere at this store seems really cool and all the people who work there seem super nice, not to mention I'd get to be around clothes all day!

I found this spot in my new back yard where you could actually see the ground and it wasn't covered in snow! I did however get snow in my shoe while trying to get there. The snow is starting to melt though, unfortunately, we're supposed to be getting another snow storm tomorrow. This snow needs to stop soon; I can't take it!

These are the new shoes that I got. I really like their sort of "oxford but not" look.

After my interview, I stopped at a thrift store that's near by because I have a problem. But, anyway, I found a really great 70s dress, that will be in my etsy shop as soon as I hem it. I also got a cool 70s blouse, a stripped tee, a dress from the 50 cents bin that I'm going to turn into a skirt and the coolest shoes ever! They're these gold, sparkly, 60s shoes! They're a size 5, but I'm a 6 and they just fit me. They're a little bit small. They'll be in my shop soon!

So I had to jump on the bandwagon and write about Alexa Chung's line for Madewell. I, of course, am late with this and I'm writing about it after everyone else, but nevertheless, I think it's super! I only recently got into Madewell. Reading fashions blogs have really opened me up to some new designers I, otherwise, may have never heard of, which it awesome!

I completely adore Alexa Chung's style, so I was really looking forward to seeing her collection. And, while it's not anything too crazy or out of this world, I think it's a really great, super wearable collection that looks incredible comfortable and really 70s inspired in the best way! I'm not too crazy about the clogs though, but maybe this is the new thing. I don't know. But anyway, I like everything else! Especially that polka dot dress at the bottom... I really want that! Now if only I could afford it...

Valentine's Day

I never really been too in to Valentine's day. Probably because I never had a date. But, for the past three years I have had a date :) but we still never really go crazy. Just a simple dinner and hanging out together. I kind of like it better that way. It's much more relaxing and, I think it's more romantic too.

This weekend was pretty exciting, though! Peter and I went to the orchestra on Saturday! I've never been to an orchestra in my life so it was really cool, although I was probably annoying Peter with all my questions. I also forgot to take any pictures while I was there! Then yesterday we had dinner with a Korean exchange student that his parents teach and her family. They were all so sweet and made it a really lovely evening!

Spring Inspiration: Anna Sui

I think Anna Sui is so cool! Her designs have a such a vintage feel to them, with a rock and roll twist. Her collections always make me feel like I've stepped back into the 70s (which I really wish could happen). Her Spring 2010 collection is really making me wish for warmer weather! I love the way she mixes patterns and textures and her use of bold colors. It seems almost chaotic, but only Anna Sui could pull it together and make it look effortlessly cool!

Hats off to Hats!

During Winter I'm always wearing tons of hats. I've probably collected about 50 different hats over the years (maybe more including ones I've sold or given away). I just really love trowing a hat on to complete an outfit. I think hats can totally transform an outfit from punk to classic to bohemian... and in the Winter, they keep you warm too! (Let's hear it for multi tasking!) I really think that a hat is probably my favorite accessory! What do you think your favorite accessory is?

I decided to do a post on hats and, while looking for pictures, I found people wearing so many different kinds of hats! This really gave me inspiration to wear some of my more fashion forward hats and maybe to look for some other types in stores (when I find a job, of course). I don't know if I'd ever look as cool in a hat as these girls from Lookbook and Wardrobe Remix, but I can try...

As you may or may not know, I am really into photography and I think that Garry Winogrand is probably one of my favorite photographers. He is a New York City artists who did street photography in the 1960s. This is from his Wikipedia article: "Winogrand was known for his portrayal of American life in the early 1960s, Many of his photographs depict the social issues of his time day and in the role of media in shaping attitudes. He roamed the streets of New York with his 35mm Leica camera rapidly taking photographs using a prefocused wide angle lens. His pictures frequently appeared as if they were driven by the energy of the events he was witnessing. While the style has been much imitated, Winogrand's eye, his visual style, and his wit, are unique." I love Garry Winogrand's photos. They're such a interesting view of what New York was like in the '60s and this lighting is always spectacular! Not to mention all the great '60s fashion inspiration!

the big move!

On Sunday, I made my big move from NYC to Philadelphia. It was pretty emotional, saying good by to my mom and all my friends and family, but I think this will be a good move. I'm not to far from New York, so it'll be easy to go back and visit, and the vintage is much better here!

I'm slowly getting used to being in a new city and today I had my first day of classes at Philadelphia University. I'm really excited for my Garment Structures class, which is a sewing class. I think that might be my favorite class (I love sewing!). This semester is going to be a lot of work, but I'm really happy to be back in school again!

I promise there will be more regular posting on this blog and more shop updates once I get settled in to this new city. I hope everyone had a great weekend!

Belated Holiday Wishes!

Well, this has been really long over due. I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season! I was so busy during Christmas time. I was working everyday and trying to get people presents and on top of it I had a really bad cold. I'm all better now, and I had a really nice Christmas! I got to see my sister who live in Charlotte and some other family members from Boston! I didn't take too many pictures, but here are the ones I took early in the night.

New York is a pile of snow!

New York became covered in snow last night! I took these photos outside my house this morning. I don't know how much we got, but when I went out this morning the snow was up to my knees! I know all the Canadians out there are like what are you complaining about! But I'm not complaining! I'm loving it! I feel like I'm upstate, in the mountains, which I love! And it's definitely making me feel much more Christmasy! What I am complaining about is that I still had to work today and I have to work every day until Christmas! I also still have this awful cold and I can't breath through my nose :(
But, on a happier note... I got some really exciting news! The first thing is that I found out that I got into Philadelphia University for their fashion design program... and I got a scholarship! I'm so excited! This has been my dream for such a long time! I've always wanted to have a line of handmade clothing and now I'm one step closer!

The other news I received was that I was nominated for my first ever blog award!!! I think I jumped up and down a little when I read it! The lovely Emma from Emma's Music nominated me for a Vintage Style Award! Now being that this is my first award, I'm not really sure what I'm supposed to do. Do I nominate other people, or do I have to wait until someone gives me the award, or does the nominating equal the giving? I'm not sure. If someone could tell me that would be great. So, I had a few outfits that I wanted to take pictures of, but I've come down with this horrible cold and I just don't have the energy to change out of sweatpants. I did muster up some energy to list all my new items that I promised a while ago. I'm really excited about this week's update! I think there's some really great items in this bunch, including possibly the best Christmas sweater ever! Also, I still have my Christmas sale going on! My First Ever Blog Interview... and Give Away!

As promised, here is my first ever blog interview! My friend Tricia just started an adorable little etsy shop where she sells the prettiest handmade jewelry. We're doing a give away of a really pretty pair of earrings (details at the end of the interview).

what lead you to start making jewelry?

I always loved jewelry and all girly things, I started making it because I like being creative and wanted to try something new, once I started I discovered it was something I really enjoyed and love doing.

What styles influence your jewelry?

I don't know if anything specific influences my jewelry, I really just look for beads that catch my eye. I love testing different things out and seeing what works and what doesn't. I like to just look and my materials and see what jumps out. I would say I'm a mix of girly grunge.

How would you describe your personal style?

My personal style is very laid back, jeans and sneakers. I'm definitely more into accessories. Anyone who knows me knows I have way to many bags for one person. I like to dress up simple outfits with cool jewelry and bags, I love make up and perfume. I love funky colored nail polish and I'm really into 80's blue eye shadow right now.

How do you get inspired to make a piece of jewelry?

I get inspired by different colors and shapes. I like to mix things that are different and don't belong together. Being different and original is always important to me. My inspirations comes from different things that surround me and really just how I'm feeling in that moment.

What is your favorite band and song?

My favorite band is without a doubt Nirvana, I don't even have to think about it for a second. Favorite song is ANYTHING by Nirvana, if I absolutely had to choose one, Drain You off their CD From the Muddy Banks of the Wishkah

If you could have any job for a day what would it be and why?

I would love to own my own accessory store one day. I eventually would like to branch out into making hair accessories and handbags etc. Owning my own store would be my ultimate dream but I also would love to be a professional poker player, I know random but I love poker! Being a poker player is all about reading people and taking risks, you have to trust your instincts which is something you have to do when you're designing jewelry too.

What advice would you give to others who want to create their own jewelry?

My advice would be to go for it, whether its creating your own jewelry or doing anything in life. You never know unless you try something how it can affect your life. I found something that I love doing and to me that's what most important, if I never earn a dollar from my jewelry it's ok because I found something that makes me happy and that's priceless.

I am continuously amazed by this band! They started in Brooklyn, NY (yay NY!) and they've put out four albums and no one really knows who they are. They're music is absolutely amazing! Anyway... I still haven't seen them live and I really want to! If anyone hears about a show in the NYC/Philadelphia area let me know!

Thanksgiving... and other reasons I haven't been blogging

Well... I just realized that it's been almost a month since the last time I posted anything. A lot went on in the month of November. The first thing that happened was that I had an interview at Philadelphia University. I was so nervous for the interview! and it wasn't even a real interview! I was more just going there to apply and talk to someone about the program, but I was so scared that I wouldn't get in. I spent the first half of the month getting everything ready! I interview went really well, though! They said that my grades and my portfolio looked really good, but they had to send it to the fashion design department. I'm still waiting to hear if I got in or not, but I'll keep everyone posted.

After I had the interview, I came home for a few days and then went back to Philadelphia to spend Thanksgiving with Peter and his family. I had such a nice time with them! He really has the nicest family!

This is what I wore on Thanksgiving. The skirt is vintage and from etsy (it came all the way from France!). The sweater is from a shop near my house that was having a $10 sale!

We went to Peter's cousin's house and, lucky for me, she's a vegetarian too, so there was lots of stuff I could eat! We also reenacted an old family photo they had and then did a silly one afterwards! It was a really nice holiday!

When I came back from Philly, my friend had a birthday party at her house. I had some really good cake and got to hang out with some good friends. I also played The Beatles Rockband, which I never played before! (I was terrible!) It was still a really good time though!

This is what I wore to her party. The dress and the belt were thrifted. The sweater was thrifted in London! The boots are from alloy.com years ago.

So that's what I've been up to. Now things are back to normal and I'll be blogging on a regular basis now. I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and a great month too! Now on to Christmas!

Borat!

I'm back from my week of craziness! I was all ready to write a blog post on Sunday about the haunted house I was working on, until I opened my computer to find that I had no Internet connection! I still can't connect and I have no idea why... and this is really not good when you run and online store! So for right now I'm posting this on my little brother's computer, so bear with me because it's a PC and I don't really know how to use it :)

Anyway, I had so much fun making costumes for the annual haunted house that the Rockaway Artists Alliance puts on. I meet so many nice people there... and this was the first time I ever made costumes, so I really learned a lot! We were working well into the night the whole week before Halloween and I apologize for being pretty absent from the Internet. I had to work and then go straight over to the haunted house and wasn't getting home until about 11pm or midnight! I was pretty tired, but it was so worth it!

The haunted house came out great! It was a creepy circus with lots of weird sideshow acts. I even went through it on Halloween and everyone did such a great job! it was really scary, even though I know who was in all the costumes. It ran for three nights and on the last night (Halloween) they had a little party afterwards. Peter even came to visit from Philadelphia! I was really excited to see him, because I miss him so much! I'll have a lot more pictures (and better pictures) soon when other people send them to me.

Even though I had so much fun doing it, I'm really glad the haunted house is over! Now, after that craziness is over, I can start on the craziness of applying to school! I really want to go to Philadelphia University for fashion design. I have an appointment to apply on Nov. 19th. I'm so excited and nervous about it! I can't wait to be in school again!

I'm also going to be updating my shop soon! It's really been a while! I made some new jewelry and have a some more of my photography for the shop!

So, I've been a pretty bad blogger lately. Sorry guys. It's because I've been working on the costume design for a haunted house this halloween. It's been so much work, but it's really fun work! And I've met some really great people! It's starts tomorrow and runs until Saturday. There's still a lot of work to do and I'm going to be really busy all week. But I'll be back to normal on Sunday. Promise.

This 16 year old girl from Australia is aiming to become the youngest person to sail around the world, solo and unassisted. This is crazy! I completely forgot to write about the cool dresses I found when I was in Boston! I found these three (plus a vegetarian Indian cookbook) at a Goodwill store right near my friend's apartment. After a few alterations, they will be in my etsy shop! (not the cookbook, though. sorry )

I also went to some garage sales last Sunday and I didn't really see that much there. I was kind of disappointed. I did find this kind of 80s looking Tommy Hilfiger bag and an interesting looking book at one sale. I found a pretty necklace and vintage 80s earrings for the store at another. So, it wasn't a total loss. :)

Also, on an unrelated note, this is what I wore yesterday, when I went to see Where the Wild Things Are and then to play pool (in a really random turn of events) with some friends.

In preparation for my big move to Philadelphia in January (and also because I bought some things) I'm selling a bunch of my clothes. I mean I'm getting rid of A LOT! I really need to downsize. I have way to much clothes! So I put the first batch of stuff on eBay (see below). Everything is around a size 6 or a small. Regina Spektor!

Regina Spektor was on Saturday Night Live last night, so i decided to do a post about her. She was born in Moscow, Russia and came to the USA in 1989, when she was nine years old. She grew up in the Bronx.

Regina is really cool! Her music is awesome and she has this really cute vintage style. I saw her live last summer at McCarren Park Pool, in Brooklyn, in the rain and It was such an awesome show! (even though everyone got wet).

I didn't really pay attention to fashion week this year. I don't really know why. I guess I just kind of forgot about it and was busy doing other things (like watching TV). I really wish I had though. So I guess I'm a bit late on writing about things like this, but, while looking around on the Internet, I stumbled across Luella Bartley's Spring 2010 collection ( am I the only one who thought we'd have flying cars or something in 2010?) and it's adorable! I got all the photos from here. It has a really 60s vibe in the best way, and the pastel colors mixed with black and white polka dots are just perfect. How cute is the black dress with the heart cutout!? I'll tell you... extremely! I really wish I could afford that polka dot skirt on the top. I might try to make one :)

Boston!

So last weekend I went up to Boston with some friends to visit one of my best friends, who is living there while going to law school. We had so much fun! I went up on Thursday night with my best friend Danielle and Kathryn's sister, Kristen. We got to meet Kathryn's roommates and hung out in her apartment. Then Friday we walked around the city and saw and awesome street performer and found an outdoor market where I got 8 limes for a dollar! We went the Cheers bar for dinner and then went out to a bar with Kathryn's friends later on.

On Saturday, we went the this Oktoberfest festival at a Brewery (which was interesting because I hate beer). People we're keg bowling and Danielle and Kathryn were in a chicken dancing contest. There were funny German bands playing and lots of German food. It was raining a lot that day so I didn't talk too many pictures, but we still had a lot of fun. Sunday we went to Ihop (which was delicious!) and then we drove home. It was so much fun spending the weekend with such great friends... and not working!

I was going to do a post about a fall wish list because I'm so excited about this nice fall weather we've been having, here in New York, and because I've finally been able to wear tights and boots! But, I'm way to busy to do that, so it'll have to wait.

The reason I'm so busy is because my friend is coming over to pick me up in about 2 1/2 hours and I need to finish packing! We're going to visit one of my best friends, who's in law school in Boston, for the weekend. I'm so excited to be going! My life has been kinda boring lately.
